Daniel Oppong, founder of The Courage Collective, explained that the DEI initiative is “an attempt to try to create workplaces where more or all people can thrive.”

However, these programs have been slowly falling in the business world as conservatives pressure and boycott companies taking part in DEI initiatives.

More conservative-leaning corporations like Harley-Davidson, Tractor Supply, and Deere & Co. have unsurprisingly conceded, but this wave has even extended to traditionally liberal organizations like CNN and Meta.

Highlighting the backlash against these programs, Christopher Rufo from the Manhattan Institute wrote, “These are not neutral programs to increase demographic diversity; they are political programs that use taxpayer resources to advance a specific partisan orthodoxy.”

Now, the latest company to drop its DEI initiatives due to fears of “Go Woke, Go Broke” is Brown-Forman Corp., the maker of Jack Daniel’s whiskey.

Brown-Forman Corp. sent an email to employees stating that it will no longer tie executive compensation to DEI hiring targets and will stop participating in LGBTQ-friendly workplace rankings.

One prominent voice criticizing the company’s decision is Eric Bloem, vice president of the Human Rights Campaign, who criticized businesses like Brown-Forman for making “shortsighted” decisions.
